Hello good people how are you? For the last two days it has done little else but pour with rain! I am happy I don't live in Queensland as they have had to contend with floods, high winds and major storms. So I am not complaining in the least!
I promised to return to our December 2014 trip and so I shall, this time sharing what we did between the 7th and the 10th, then I have an unusual card to show you. A request to make an engagement card for a Grandson who got engaged to his now fiance in Thailand.
So let's begin ...
We arrived from New York to Heathrow on the 7th where we picked up a hire car and drove to Huntingdon. We were due to stay at the premier Inn, so we drove there first. Would you believe they wanted an extra 10GBP because we were checking in 45 minutes earlier than the 2,00pm time!!!!!! The room was ready so it wasn't as if we were causing an inconvenience. Not sure we'll stay there again. When we complained later we were told it was the computer that added this extra levy to our account!!! Who operated the Computer I wonder!!
We were blown away - so we decided NOT to check-in and instead go straight over to our dear friend Linda (we call Looby - long story) who lives in Papworth Everard.
She has had a bad time of it recently, and is unwell with Bone Cancer, we have just heard she is back on weekly chemo so we send her our thoughts and prayers.
We went into Cambridge on the 8th and had a look around the University part of the town - quite lovely, then went and had a bite to eat - this is where I took this photo of her.
We left Cambridge on the 9th and made our way to Slough. We took the train into London to see La Soiree, we had seen it twice before in Sydney but it was such a great show we wanted to see it again. Sure enough we met up with the same people we had seen in Sydney - a great night had by all.
We went to some old haunts ...
and on the evening of the 10th we went to see The Mousetrap:
A great night and we are not saying whodunit!!
It was from here that we would take the Euro tunnel to Europe - more on my next blog post.
For now I thought you might like to see a card.
So here it is:
It is a step Engagement card for a couple who got engaged in January in Thailand. This card was commissioned by their Grandmother who lives in the same town as I do here in Australia. Much of it I got from the Internet. I began with a piece of Kaisercraft 12 x 12 weave card stock as the base.
Here you can get a Birds eye view from the top of the card to see all the steps on the right side.
I downloaded images that I thought were typically Thai, I used a Spellbinders Asian Accents die to cut some gold Mirri card for the embellishments.
A Kaisercraft wooden flourish decorated with some little Doves from my stash.
The flowers were a mixture of bought and ones I made myself. The batik fabric was a materials design I downloaded.
I made a couple of decorative pins to tuck beneath the flowers. The pearls were already on the top of the pins I just added some cloisonne and metal beads to finish them off.
I used peel off Alphabet letters stuck to a sheet of acetate (so they would be straight) and some gorgeous red and white flowers from Really Reasonable Ribbon.
This is a close up of the first step on the right of the card - I got the image from Google images and I placed it on a Fancy Spellbinders Tag cut out of gold Mirri card.
Here is the back of the card showing the writing panel, which I made using a Spellbinders die.
